RTC5869 - Land Rover Kit-ball joint
Land Rover Defender / Discovery / Range Rover Classic Right‑Hand Track Rod End - RTC5869
RTC5869 is the genuine right‑hand‑thread track‑rod end fitted to Land Rover Defender 90, 110 and 130 models, as well as Discovery I and Range Rover Classic vehicles, covering production from the late 1980s through to the end of the Defender L316 platform. Installed on the outer end of the steering track‑rod on the vehicle’s right‑hand side, this ball‑joint assembly transmits steering movement from the rod to the swivel housing while allowing suspension articulation and maintaining accurate steering geometry.
Supplied as a genuine Land Rover part, RTC5869 is manufactured as a sealed, high‑tolerance ball joint with an OEM‑specification tapered pin, integrated dust boot, right‑hand threaded shank and castellated‑nut/cotter‑pin locking arrangement. Genuine versions ensure correct joint preload, articulation range and service life, and avoid the premature play and contamination issues commonly found with pattern alternatives. The part supersedes earlier steering‑joint references including RTC1800.
Engineered to maintain factory steering precision, RTC5869 is central to ensuring consistent toe‑adjustment capability, correct self‑centering behaviour and safe load transfer through the front axle. Wear, corrosion or torn dust boots can introduce steering looseness, vibration or uneven tyre wear; consequently, RTC5869 is routinely replaced as part of steering‑system refurbishments, particularly on older Tdi‑era Defenders and high‑mileage Discovery I vehicles.
