STC4382 - Land Rover Bearing
Land Rover Defender Front/Rear Hub Wheel Bearing - STC4382
STC4382 is the tapered‑roller wheel bearing used in the front and rear hub assemblies of Land Rover Defender models, as well as Discovery 1, Range Rover Classic, and late Series III vehicles. The bearing fits into the hub bore as part of a two‑bearing arrangement, supporting both radial and axial loads while allowing smooth wheel rotation under vehicle weight and drivetrain forces.
Supplied individually, STC4382 is a precision‑machined tapered roller bearing that supersedes the earlier specification RTC3429, offering improved durability and compatibility across hub rebuild configurations. Genuine Land Rover versions maintain the correct dimensional tolerances required to ensure proper preload when setting the hub assembly. [lrdirect.com], [lrworkshop.com]
Designed for Defenders built from 1987 to 2016, STC4382 is used in both front and rear hubs on 90, 110, and 130 models. It is also compatible with Discovery 1 (1989–1998), Range Rover Classic (1980s–1995), and Series III from October 1980 onward. Each hub assembly contains two STC4382 bearings, installed as inner and outer units, and it is standard practice to replace both during any hub overhaul. Correct installation requires pressing the bearing cups into the hub, packing the rollers with grease, and accurately setting end‑float using the hub adjusting nuts.
STC4382 is commonly replaced during routine axle servicing or when symptoms such as wheel play, rumbling, heat build‑up, or contamination appear. Replacing worn bearings prevents hub failure, reduces drivetrain stress, and maintains steering accuracy, braking stability, and overall road safety—especially critical for heavily loaded or off‑road Defenders.
