PRC8495 - Land Rover Casing & wheelbox assembly-wiper motor
Land Rover Windscreen Wiper Wheelbox - PRC8495 (Series IIa/III & Defender 90/110/130)
PRC8495 is the front windscreen‑wiper wheelbox assembly fitted to a wide range of Land Rover models, including late Series IIa and Series III vehicles, and Defender 90, 110 and 130 models spanning the 1980s through to the early 2000s. Installed through the bulkhead panel beneath the windscreen, the wheelbox provides the drive output for each wiper spindle, converting motion from the wiper motor’s rack cable into the reciprocating rotation that operates the wiper arms.
Genuine Land Rover wheelboxes are supplied as a complete casing and spindle assembly, featuring the correct gear profile, hardened spindle shaft, and factory‑specified bush tolerances that ensure smooth wiper operation and long service life. The assembly includes the threaded shaft for the wiper arm, the internal gear housing, and the drive spigot designed to accept the wiper motor’s rack cable. PRC8495 supersedes earlier wheelbox references including PRC6283, and is engineered to match the original bulkhead mounting aperture and nut arrangement.
Over time, original wheelboxes commonly exhibit symptoms such as excessive play, wiper arm chatter, uneven sweep, or seized spindles due to internal corrosion or wear of the gear teeth. PRC8495 is frequently replaced during bulkhead refurbishment, windscreen‑frame restoration, and full wiper‑system overhauls. Genuine‑spec units maintain precise tolerances and spindle concentricity, helping preserve smooth wiper motion and reducing strain on the wiper motor, especially important on older vehicles where the system is sensitive to increased drag.
Suitable for Series IIa/III and Defender 90/110/130 applications, PRC8495 provides the correctly engineered casing and spindle assembly required to restore dependable wiper performance while maintaining the original Land Rover mechanical design.
