Land Rover Anti‑Roll Bar Ball Joint – NTC1888 (Defender, Discovery I, Range Rover Classic)

NTC1888 is the anti‑roll bar (ARB) ball joint used across multiple Land Rover coil‑sprung platforms, including Defender 90/110/130, Discovery I (1989–1998), and the Range Rover Classic. It connects the vehicle’s sway bar to the suspension arm, allowing the anti‑roll bar to articulate while controlling body roll during cornering.

This joint features a threaded stud, tapered ball pin and metal-bodied socket assembly, typically supplied with a nut, washer and split pin. The joint’s articulation absorbs and transfers lateral suspension forces, restoring handling precision and reducing sway. It is fitted to both front and rear anti‑roll bars on vehicles equipped with sway‑bar systems.

NTC1888 is widely used across the Defender L316 platform from early production up to 2006 and through the Puma era (2007–2016) on models fitted with ARBs. It supersedes earlier stabiliser link references such as NRC7101.

This part is a common service replacement item, as worn ball joints cause symptoms such as clunks over bumps, vague steering feel and excessive body roll. Replacement requires only basic tools and is straightforward, making it a routine maintenance component for Defender‑family vehicles.
