Land Rover Defender Bonnet Slam Panel / Bonnet Locking Platform - ABG710040

ABG710040 is the bonnet slam‑panel platform fitted to Land Rover Defender 90, 110 and 130 models, covering vehicles from the Td5 era through the final L316 production run in 2016. Positioned at the top of the radiator frame and directly beneath the grille, this panel supports the bonnet‑locking mechanism, provides the mounting for the bonnet‑release cable, and forms part of the structural front‑end assembly that ties together the radiator support, wings and grille.

Supplied in black‑coated steel on genuine Land Rover versions, ABG710040 features pre‑pressed mounting points for the slam‑latch, cable sheath, and upper grille fixings. It is widely used across Tdi, Td5 and Puma/Tdci Defenders, as well as certain military Wolf derivatives.

As a key structural and functional component, the slam panel ensures that the bonnet aligns correctly with the wings and closes securely against the latch. When the panel becomes corroded, bent or cracked—often due to front‑end impacts, radiator‑mount corrosion or repeated bonnet‑latch stress, it can cause poor bonnet alignment, difficult operation of the release cable or unreliable latching. Because of this, ABG710040 is a common replacement during front‑end rebuilds, restoration work or upgrades involving the grille, radiator frame or cooling‑system components.
